| 2003 marked the first year I've bought a season ticket to the N.C. State Football
season. And we all had lots of fun. I mean..what can be bad about hanging around the parking lot all
day, cooking food, drinking beer, and visiting with friends? And there's a live football game going
on, too! Hopefully, next year I'll have funds and a reason to buy two season tickets.
| Here's the basic setup. This was at the first game while we were still figuring
out what we needed and what we could do without. As you'll see..the umbrella never made it to another game.
| One of the people that were tailgating just down the way a bit from us had these actual
football helmets with the the various logos that NCSU has used. My buddy Frank had to try one on.
I didn't get the camera in time to catch him with it actually on his head..but you can see in this picture
there wasn't a whole lot of room left inside the helmet!
| Here's a picture later in the day..at a later game, actually. Anyway, the parking
lot fills up, the smells of different foods cooking..and the noise. But it's much fun. We got to
be pretty good friends with the people in the next space.
| We all took turns cooking the various meals to be served to our little group. In this
case, it was a 1:00pm game. It was also a game against our arch rival UNC. So we got out there good
and early. Early enough that I am cooking scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast. Man, it's no easy
trick to feed 6 people..and make everything come out at the same time while using a portable gas grill.
| And here's JJ cooking lunch for that game. Some tasty shish kabobs. You'll notice a theme
in the special clothing required to use the portable gas grill. We had to wear the apron and the hat. If you
were wearing the hat, you had control over what was happening on the grill. If you didn't have the hat on,
you were not allowed to make suggestions, or even mention what was being cooked.
| Here's another game, later in the evening where Frank is handling the cooking duties.
As I recall, they were some tasty fajitas. If you look closely, you'll see a small sign hanging on the
Porta-Potty in the background. It says "Out of Order" and provided us hours of amusement watching people
walk up to it, read the sign, shake their head, and walk away.
| And of course, there's people watching. On this particular day, we were fairly
close to the line for the will-call window. This is my attorney's opinion of one of them.
| And, unfortunately, some games are not complete without casualties. Here's a picture at half-time
during the final game of the season. If someone had grabbed the camera a half hour earlier, that'd be me on the
tailgate of the truck. Fortunately, I woke up fairly quickly. This poor unfortunate was carted off in an ambulance.
She was really passed out.
